Clemson lost to Louisville 13-10 on April 25 at Jim Patterson Stadium, as five errors by the Tigers contributed to their defeat. Despite strong offensive performances, Clemson’s defense struggled throughout the game.
The outcome highlights ongoing defensive issues for Clemson, which have affected several games this season. The Tigers’ inability to limit mistakes has cost them opportunities in a competitive conference.
Clemson started with an early lead after Gaffney hit a home run in the first inning. However, a walk and throwing error by Aidan Knaak allowed Louisville’s Zion Rose to advance and score on Tague Davis’s two-run homer. In the fourth inning, Tryston McCladdie committed two errors that led to three unearned runs for Louisville, increasing their lead.
Although Clemson narrowed the gap with home runs from Savoie and productive innings from Gaffney and McCladdie, additional errors continued to hinder their progress. Tyler Lichtenberger’s fielding mistake in the sixth kept an inning alive for Louisville, resulting in Ben Slanker hitting a three-run home run that pushed the score to 10-4.
The Tigers rallied in the seventh with four runs but could not overcome further defensive lapses. Three more unearned runs scored by Louisville in the eighth sealed Clemson’s fate despite late efforts in the ninth inning. Knaak took his fifth loss of the season while Wyatt Danilowicz earned his fourth win for Louisville.
Game two of the series is scheduled for Saturday night at Jim Patterson Stadium with first pitch set for 7 p.m. on ACC Network.
