Clemson University reported on May 3 that its track and field teams secured several event victories, top-10 finishes, and personal records during the Duke Twilight competition held in Durham, North Carolina.
The results are significant for the program as athletes not only won events but also improved their standings in Clemson’s all-time lists. Performances like Ayomide Oyetunji’s win in the men’s 100 meters with a time of 10.24 seconds and Elizabeth Ilanda’s eighth-place finish in the women’s 5000 meters with a personal best that moved her to No. 5 on Clemson’s all-time list demonstrate progress for both individuals and the team.
Other notable performances included Jalen Johnson finishing second in the men’s 100 meters (10.26 seconds), Khailan Vitalis winning the men’s 110-meter hurdles (13.90 seconds), Briana Campbell placing fifth in the women’s 100 meters (11.33) and second in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a personal best of 13.19 seconds, as well as Grant Holliday taking second place in the men’s 400 meters (46.15) and fourth place in the men’s 200 meters with a personal-best time of 21.23 seconds.
In field events, Jacob Carruthers finished second in men’s high jump by clearing two meters six centimeters, while Danielle Noble matched her personal best at one meter seventy-five centimeters to take second place in women’s high jump—keeping her tied for sixth on Clemson’s all-time list. Sophia Curtis set a new personal record of eight place (58.67 seconds) in women’s 400-meter hurdles and was runner-up with another PR (12.69m) in women’s triple jump.
Additional strong showings came from Kendra Dye who placed third and Mary Ella Brooks who took fifth place respectively during women’s hammer throw; Kimeka Smith added a third-place finish for women’s shot put; Brendan Gomez ran a new best time of fourteen minutes forty point eighty-three seconds to finish seventeenth among men over five thousand meters.
Looking ahead, Clemson will compete next at the ACC Outdoor Championships scheduled for May 14–16.
