City of Myrtle Beach issued the following announcement on August 6.

Work is progressing on the Jake Abraham Transfer Station on Mr. Joe White Avenue. The City of Myrtle Beach is building a new facility to handle solid waste and recycling. The project should be ready for service sometime this fall. A transfer station allows the waste to be transferred into larger trucks for transport to the Horry County Landfill and the Materials Recycling Facility on Highway 90.

Jake Abraham worked as a solid waste collection operator from January 1947 until his retirement in 1980, completing 33 years of dedicated service to the residents of Myrtle Beach. Known as “Mr. Jake,” he was a great role model for the community. Mr. Abraham died in 2011 at age 91.
