David Dustin Fowler, a 41-year-old resident of Gaffney, South Carolina, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Court documents and statements presented during the proceedings revealed that in November 2024, Fowler located his estranged wife and fired a shotgun at her several times. The incident resulted in the victim losing three fingers and suffering other serious injuries that required medical attention. Deputies from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and found Fowler standing over his wife with a shotgun. He was arrested at the scene, and another firearm was discovered in his truck.
Fowler had previously been convicted of criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, which made it illegal for him to possess firearms.
United States District Judge Jacquelyn D. Austin sentenced Fowler to 180 months in prison, followed by three years of court-ordered supervision. Federal prisoners are not eligible for parole.
The investigation involved the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, and the Seventh Circuit Solicitor’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Max Cauthen prosecuted the case.
