Clemson’s Gladys Chepngetich has kept her place on the updated watch list for The Bowerman, according to an April 29 announcement from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Bowerman is a major award in collegiate track and field, and being named to its watch list highlights Chepngetich’s recent performances at national events.
Chepngetich was first added to the watch list after winning the 800 meters at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships. Earlier in the season, she became the second-fastest woman in collegiate history for the indoor 800 meters by running a time of 1:58.81 at the John Thomas Terrier Challenge. Her strong results led to her debuting on update No. 2 of this year’s watch list about a month ago.
During this outdoor season, Chepngetich currently ranks seventh nationally in the women’s 800 meters with a time of 2:00.67 set at the Wake Forest Invitational. She also contributed as part of Clemson’s relay team that recorded one of the nation’s top times—18th fastest—in the women’s 4×400 meter relay with a mark of 3:28.78 during competition at Tom Jones Memorial.
As updates continue throughout the track and field season, observers will be watching to see if Chepngetich maintains or improves her standing among top collegiate athletes.
