Cheney Brothers announces $42.5 million expansion and 85 new jobs in Florence County

Cheney Brothers announced on Mar. 11 a $42.5 million expansion of its Florence County operations, which is expected to create 85 new jobs at its distribution facility located at 2491 Florence Harllee Blvd. in Florence.

The company, headquartered in Florida, distributes a range of food products across the United States and also provides food service equipment as well as kitchen and bar design services. The expanded South Carolina facility began operations after breaking ground in 2023.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits for the project and awarded a $200,000 Set-Aside grant to Florence County to help with site preparation and building construction.

Byron Russell, CEO of Cheney Brothers, said, “We have been greatly impressed by the business-friendly attitude of the state of South Carolina. We look forward to a long and very bright future, distributing product across the state.”

Governor Henry McMaster said, “By adding 85 new jobs in Florence County, Cheney Brothers is deepening its investment in South Carolina and strengthening the local economy. This expansion will create new opportunities for hardworking South Carolinians and further reinforce our reputation as a place where businesses can succeed.”

McMaster has prioritized supporting South Carolinians through economic development, public safety, education and heritage preservation, according to the official website. He has served as the state’s chief executive since Jan. 24, 2017, securing full terms in subsequent elections including those held in 2018 and 2022 according to the official website.

Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III said, “With its investment of $42.5 million, Cheney Brothers’ expansion reflects the business-friendly environment here in the Palmetto State. Industrial growth in our key sectors supports South Carolina’s continued economic success.”

Florence County Council Chairman Jerry Yarborough added: “When a company like Cheney Brothers doubles down on Florence, it’s a win for everyone. Cheney Brothers’ decision to grow here brings stable, high-quality career opportunities that will benefit Florence County residents for generations to come.”

McMaster’s authority extends across South Carolina for governance and policy oversight according to the official website, managing state government operations under the constitution from his office at the State House on Gervais Street in Columbia according to the official website.
