The College of Charleston women’s tennis team lost 4-0 to William & Mary in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship semifinals at the Mackesy Tennis Center on April 18.

This result means Charleston, seeded third, was eliminated from the tournament by second-seeded William & Mary. The loss impacts Charleston’s hopes for postseason play and puts their season in question as they await potential selection for further competition.

William & Mary secured the doubles point after winning matches on courts one and two. In singles play, Sia Cariov and Francesca Salvato of Charleston both won their first sets, but William & Mary swept courts two, four, and six to clinch the overall victory. Notable results included Francesca Davis defeating Oziera Ahmad 6-1, 6-1 and Mira Kernagis overcoming Jaiden McKee 6-3, 6-2.

The Cougars’ next opportunity may come if they are selected for a bid to the NIT Championships scheduled for March 5-8 in Rome, Georgia. The team’s future participation will depend on whether their season record is strong enough to earn an invitation.
