Charleston Southern women’s track and field finishes Georgia Tech Invitational

Charleston Southern University’s women’s track and field team completed its participation at the Georgia Tech Invitational on April 18, with sprinters leading much of the action.

The event gave athletes an opportunity to test their skills ahead of the final regular season meet. Performances at this stage are important for preparation as teams look toward conference championships.

Grenisha Thomas secured third place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.17 seconds. Teammates Chloe Greene (1:00.80), Brenda du Toit (1:01.17), Barbara de Kock (1:02.27), and Chloe Mae Wilks (1:05.53) also competed in the same event. In the 400 meters, Maya Clark ran a time of 54.03 seconds while Caroline Aslerin finished in 55.87 seconds.

Aslerin also posted a time of 24.54 seconds in the 200 meters, followed by Clark at 24.70, Katelyn Grate at 24.93, and Danea Niles at 24.94 seconds respectively.

In distance events, Freya Buglass was Charleston Southern’s fastest runner in the 800 meters with a time of 2:13.48; Lucy McNamara recorded a time of 2:15.86 and Sienna Rose finished in 2:20.12.

Other highlights included Greene clearing her first attempt in high jump with a mark of 1.57 meters, while Zemaya Carson led Charleston Southern in discus throw with a best mark of 45.92 meters and Avah Morrison threw for a best distance of 41.74 meters.

Charleston Southern is scheduled to compete next weekend at the Charlotte Invitational from April 24 through April 25 before heading into the Big South Championships set for May 11 through May 13.
