Charleston Southern competes in first day of Georgia Tech Invitational

Charleston Southern participated in the opening day of the Georgia Tech Invitational on April 18, competing in several track and field events.

The meet featured strong performances from the team, including a top ten finish by Chloe Greene in the 100-meter hurdles. Greene achieved a personal best time of 13.89 seconds, which ranks seventh in school history. Teammates Chloe Mae Wilks and Grenisha Thomas finished with times of 14.01 and 14.06 respectively, with Thomas’ mark placing her tenth all-time for Charleston Southern and also marking her career best.

In field events, Zemaya Carson placed third overall in the hammer throw with a distance of 56.95 meters and led the squad in shot put at 13.37 meters. Lily Rowan contributed throws of 46.50 meters in hammer and 12.45 meters in shot put, while Avah Morrison threw for 12.33 meters and Josaphine Ankney for 11.96 meters in shot put as well.

On the track, Thomas led Charleston Southern’s runners in the women’s 100-meter dash with a time of 11.91 seconds; Danea Niles finished at 12.18 seconds while Katelyn Grate ran it in 12.38 seconds.

The team also saw nearly its entire distance squad compete in the women’s 1500-meter race, where Freya Buglass posted a time of 4:34.55 followed closely by Lucy McNamara at 4:34.91—McNamara’s result is now sixth-best all-time for Charleston Southern.

Additional results included Charlize Antia running an eleven-minute forty-five second steeplechase (3K) and Brianna Adams finishing the women’s five-kilometer event at eighteen minutes forty-one seconds.

The Buccaneers are scheduled to continue competition tomorrow with field events starting at eleven thirty a.m., followed by track events beginning at noon.
