Charleston softball will face No. 4 seed Stony Brook in the first round of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament on May 6, according to a May 5 announcement.

The matchup is notable as it marks head coach Maggie Mrowka’s first season leading the Cougars, during which she guided the team to a 26-28 overall record and a 14-10 conference record.

Throughout the season, Charleston won five out of eight conference series and swept both Elon and Monmouth. Halle Cannon leads the team with a .355 batting average in conference play, hitting home runs in wins against Elon and Hampton. Cannon has recorded 22 hits and scored 12 runs during conference games. Leela Langston follows closely with a .348 batting average, collecting 23 hits, driving in 15 CAA runs, and throwing out 12 attempted base stealers as catcher this season.

In pitching, Mackenzie Mathis holds a season earned run average (ERA) of 3.80 over appearances in 28 games with a record of 13-7. Mathis has completed ten full games as a sophomore and struck out a total of 112 batters.

Charleston holds an all-time record of one win and six losses against Stony Brook since their first meeting in 2023. The team’s only victory came on the road in 2025 with a score of two to one. Since joining the CAA in 2014, Charleston has participated in eight tournaments; their most recent appearance was in three games during last year’s tournament where they defeated Hofstra before losing to Elon and then Hofstra again to end their season.
