Charleston softball lost 4-3 in a ten-inning game against the University of North Carolina Wilmington on April 25 at Patriots Point.
The loss brings Charleston’s overall record to 24 wins and 26 losses, with a conference record of 12-8. The game was closely contested, requiring extra innings to determine the winner.
Jules Raymond pitched seven innings for Charleston and recorded five strikeouts, tying her season high. Bronwyn Conroy started strong for the Cougars with a double in the first inning and later scored after Leela Langston hit a sacrifice fly. UNCW responded by adding runs in the second and third innings, but Halle Cannon tied it up with an RBI single in the third.
Raymond kept UNCW scoreless through several innings until they regained the lead with a walk that brought home their third run. Langston again tied the game in the seventh inning with an RBI single, sending it into extra innings. Despite opportunities late in the game—including Julia Sitterding reaching second base in the ninth—the Cougars could not bring another run across. UNCW scored once more in the tenth inning to secure their win.
Sitterding had four hits on four at-bats during the game, while six different Charleston batters contributed to eleven total hits for their team. Langston finished with two runs batted in, two hits, and one run scored.
Charleston will play its final home game of the season against UNCW on Sunday, April 26 at Patriots Point. The series finale is scheduled for noon.
