Charleston lost its final regular season softball game 5-3 against Towson on May 2. The Cougars finished the season with a record of 26-28 overall and 14-10 in the Colonial Athletic Association before heading into the conference tournament.

The result matters as it determines Charleston’s standing ahead of postseason play, setting the stage for their performance in the upcoming conference tournament.

In the opening inning, Sam Horn hit a double for an RBI, allowing Leela Langston to score and give Charleston an early lead. Towson answered back in the bottom of the first with a three-run home run. Later, Horn doubled again in the sixth inning, driving in two runs as Langston and Bronwyn Conroy scored. However, Charleston was unable to add more runs by game’s end.

Erin McDaid started as pitcher for Charleston and pitched one inning while Ryley Kutter pitched five innings and recorded two strikeouts. The Cougars collected four hits during the game from Horn, Langston, and Audri Bates.

Looking ahead, Charleston will begin postseason play at the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament scheduled for May 6-9 in Elon, North Carolina. The specific tournament schedule is yet to be announced.
