The College of Charleston baseball team will play the second game of a home-and-home series against Charleston Southern on May 5, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. at Nielsen Field and live coverage available on ESPN+.

This game follows a successful weekend for Charleston, which won two out of three games in its series at University of North Carolina Wilmington. Freshman Carter Harrington earned his second win of the season by pitching seven innings during Friday’s 6-2 victory. Redshirt senior Alex Lyon contributed two scoreless innings to tie the program record for most career relief appearances at 95.

Redshirt junior Carson Bryant and sophomore Parker Sweeney combined for a two-hit shutout on Sunday, helping secure a 5-0 win and the series victory. Bryant was named Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week after allowing only one hit and one walk over seven innings while striking out seven batters. Sweeney recorded five strikeouts among his six outs in that game. The team’s starting pitchers posted a combined earned run average of 1.88 across the weekend, giving up just five runs over twenty-four innings.

Charleston has seen continued success in recent years when playing away at Wilmington, winning each series there since 2022. The current eight-game road stretch is their longest sequence away from home since an eleven-game span in April and May of 2021.

In head-to-head matchups with Charleston Southern, Charleston holds a dominant record with sixty-five wins to eighteen losses overall and thirty-two wins as visitors. In their previous meeting this season on April 21, the Cougars secured a 7-5 victory behind strong performances from graduate Dylan Johnson (four hits), freshman Nick Diaz (three hits and three runs), and graduate Will Tippett (three runs batted in). Over their last eleven meetings, Charleston has won ten times including five consecutive victories against Charleston Southern.

Looking ahead, Charleston will travel to Elon for its final road weekend series of the regular season from May 8 to May 10.
