Charleston clinched a place in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament after defeating Towson 7-5 on May 1.

The victory means Charleston has an overall record of 26-27 this season and a conference record of 14-9. The team secured its second consecutive appearance in the CAA Tournament, and it is the first time under head coach Maggie Mrowka that they have qualified for postseason play.

Julia Sitterding contributed significantly to the win, going three-for-two at bat with one run scored and two runs batted in. After falling behind early, Charleston tied the game twice before taking their first lead in the fifth inning. In a tense seventh inning, Austy Miller and Halle Cannon reached base on errors before Savannah Scott drove in Miller for the go-ahead run. Sam Horn then doubled, allowing Cannon to score what would be Charleston’s winning run. Towson was unable to answer back.

The Cougars recorded ten hits during the game, including three doubles and one triple. Campbell Schaen pitched for 2.1 innings and struck out three batters.

This year marks Charleston’s ninth appearance in the CAA Tournament since joining the conference in 2014. The team will face Towson again on Saturday, May 2 for their regular season finale at 1 p.m., with further tournament information to be announced.
