The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has announced the completion of the Cannons Campground Road bridge replacement over Peters Creek in Spartanburg County. The bridge, which was closed in May 2024 due to safety concerns identified during a routine inspection, has now been reopened. This project aimed to restore a crucial part of the local transportation network after an extended closure.
SCDOT collaborated with contractor partners and local stakeholders to expedite the replacement process, ensuring the new bridge meets modern design standards and offers enhanced durability. Secretary of Transportation Justin Powell said, “We are proud to complete this important project for the Spartanburg community. We understand the inconvenience this closure caused, and we appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as we worked to deliver a safe, high-quality bridge that will support local travel and economic activity well into the future.”
The reopening of Cannons Campground Road marks SCDOT’s dedication to maintaining safety and efficiency in South Carolina’s highway infrastructure. Motorists are advised to drive carefully and adhere to posted speed limits as they adjust to using the new bridge.
