Carson Bryant and Parker Sweeney combined for a two-hit shutout as the College of Charleston baseball team defeated the University of North Carolina Wilmington, 5-0, at Brooks Field on May 3.

The win improves Charleston’s record to 22-24 overall and 12-12 in conference play, while UNCW drops to 26-20 and 14-10 in league action. The result is significant as it marks Charleston’s third shutout win of the season and demonstrates strong pitching depth.

Bryant, a redshirt junior, allowed only five base runners over seven innings with a career-high seven strikeouts. Sweeney took over in the eighth inning, surrendering just one hit and striking out five batters across two scoreless frames. Together, they yielded only one walk while totaling twelve strikeouts.

Offensively, Jake Amman drove in the opening run with an RBI single in the third inning. Landon Penfield contributed significantly with a two-run double in the sixth inning and another RBI double in the eighth. Will Tippett added an insurance run by singling home Penfield. Penfield finished the game going two-for-four with three runs batted in.

The Cougars now hold an all-time record of 28-29 against UNCW and have won two out of three games during each of their last three series at Brooks Field since 2022. The pitching staff limited walks throughout the weekend series, issuing just four free passes over twenty-six innings while posting a team earned run average of 3.12 and holding opponents to a .204 batting average.

Charleston will next travel up Interstate 26 for a midweek matchup against Charleston Southern on May 5.
