South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the arrest of Nathan Dwayne Reed, 25, from Hanahan, S.C., on charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor. The arrest was made by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators from the Attorney General’s Office. Assistance in the investigation came from members of the state’s ICAC Task Force, including investigators from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, Mount Pleasant Police Department, and Goose Creek Police Department.
The investigation began following a CyberTipline report received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), which led authorities to Reed. According to investigators, Reed distributed files containing child sexual abuse material.
Reed was taken into custody on June 17, 2025. He faces 11 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in the second degree (§16-15-405), each count being a felony offense that carries a potential penalty of up to 10 years imprisonment.
The Attorney General’s Office will prosecute the case. Attorney General Wilson emphasized that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) is used as a term instead of “child pornography” because it more accurately describes these crimes. The term “pornography” can suggest that the child was a consenting participant, which is not accurate. Globally, CSAM is replacing “child pornography” for this reason.
