South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has announced the arrest of John Joseph Techman, a 31-year-old resident of Moncks Corner, South Carolina. Techman faces five charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor. The arrest was carried out by investigators from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force within the Attorney General’s Office. Additional support came from investigators with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, and U.S. Secret Service, all part of the state’s ICAC Task Force.

According to investigators, Techman is accused of distributing files containing child sexual abuse material. He was taken into custody on March 12, 2025. The charges against him include five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in the second degree (§16-15-405), which is classified as a felony offense. Each count carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

The Attorney General’s Office will handle the prosecution of this case. Attorney General Wilson emphasized that “all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”

Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) is used to describe such content more accurately than “pornography,” as it reflects the non-consensual nature of these crimes against minors. Globally, CSAM is replacing the term child pornography for this reason.
