South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has issued a statement following arguments at the Supreme Court regarding two cases known as the Save Women’s Sports cases. The cases focus on whether laws in Idaho and West Virginia that restrict participation in women’s sports to individuals assigned female at birth should be upheld.

“Today, SCOTUS heard two cases that have the potential to finally make women’s sports fair and safe again. For too long, biological men have been allowed to participate in female competitions, all in the name of leftist gender ideology. Enough is enough. I urge the Court to acknowledge biological reality and truth and to uphold Idaho’s and West Virginia’s laws that protect girls’ sports.

As Attorney General, I have been on the front lines of these battles, fighting to protect our kids—especially our girls.

In September, I joined 27 other attorneys general in filing two friend-of-the-court briefs to ask the Supreme Court to rule on this issue of fairness and basic biology.

We have rigorously defended South Carolina law establishing safe spaces based on biological sex in schools and challenged federal regulations that would undo these protections. Our office will continue the work of protecting children—especially women and girls—against ideological activists.

As the dad of a daughter, I want her to enter the playing field without diminished opportunity. I applaud SCOTUS for taking up this issue and look forward to the re-establishment of common sense to protect women’s sports across our nation.”

Wilson emphasized his ongoing involvement with similar legal matters affecting South Carolina. He noted his participation alongside 27 other attorneys general by submitting briefs urging the Supreme Court to address what he described as issues of fairness and basic biology in athletics.

The South Carolina Attorney General acts as the state’s chief prosecutor, legal counsel, and securities regulator, overseeing divisions responsible for criminal matters, civil litigation, consumer protection efforts, victim support services, and educational outreach designed to enhance public safety statewide. The office also collaborates with law enforcement agencies across South Carolina while maintaining regulatory authority over securities violations and consumer protection issues. More information about these responsibilities can be found on its official website.

Wilson stated that his office has “rigorously defended South Carolina law establishing safe spaces based on biological sex in schools” and has opposed federal rules that he says could reverse such protections for students.

The Supreme Court’s decision on these cases is expected to set precedent for how states may regulate participation in school athletics according to gender identity or biological sex standards.
