The Atlantic Coast Conference announced on April 29 that Alexa Spallina of Clemson University has been named the ACC Freshman of the Year for women’s lacrosse.

Spallina’s first season set new records at Clemson and made an impact nationally. She finished her freshman year with 104 points, which placed her second in the conference and fourth in the country. Spallina became the first player in program history to reach 100 points in a single season, surpassing Clemson’s previous record of 73 points.

She led the conference with 67 assists, ranking second nationally and averaging over three assists per game. In her debut year, she broke multiple school records for assists—including career, single-season, and freshman marks—surpassing the former program high of 42. In addition to her playmaking, Spallina scored 37 goals during the season, including nine from free-position shots.

Her performance earned her several honors beyond Freshman of the Year. These included First Team All-ACC recognition, an Inside Lacrosse Nike Midseason Media Honorable Mention All-America selection, and being named ACC Offensive Player of the Week on April 7. Before starting college play this year, she was ranked No. 4 on ILWomen’s Early-Season Freshman Impact Rankings.

Spallina also recorded some of Clemson’s best single-game performances ever. She set a new program record by scoring 13 points against Davidson on March 31—ten of which were assists—breaking her own earlier mark set that same season. Currently, she holds both the top three single-game point totals and top five assist totals in school history.

Looking ahead, Spallina’s achievements highlight a promising future for both herself and Clemson women’s lacrosse.
