Wofford junior right-handed pitcher Alec Bouchard was named Southern Conference pitcher of the week for games played from April 27 to May 3, according to a May 4 announcement by the conference office. The weekly honors are selected by the league office and also recognized Mercer’s outfielder Chris Katz as player of the week.
This recognition marks Bouchard’s second pitcher of the week award this season and is part of three overall weekly honors for Wofford Terriers baseball this year. His first pitching award came on April 13, while teammate Ben Timblin was named player of the week on April 6.
Associate head coach Pat Brown said, “The biggest thing about Alec is his consistency in work ethic on and off the field. That’s why you see him become more consistent year after year, outing after outing. Everything worked for him this weekend; he settled in early and didn’t let up. We’re happy to see him get recognized once again for his great work.”
Bouchard’s recent performance included a complete nine-inning game win against Western Carolina where he recorded a career-high 14 strikeouts, becoming the first Terrier since Zac Cowan in 2024 to achieve that mark in a single game and the first since Kenny Michaels in 2025 to pitch a complete game. Earlier this season, he set his previous high with a 12-strikeout effort versus The Citadel on April 10.
Currently leading the Southern Conference with 86 strikeouts, Bouchard ranks twenty-ninth nationally in that category. He also holds third place nationally and second within the conference with an earned run average (ERA) of 1.68.
The Terriers will play their final non-conference game against Gardner-Webb at John Henry Moss Stadium on Wednesday, May 6 at 6 p.m., before returning home for their last homestand against ETSU starting Friday, May 8.
