Attorney General Alan Wilson, along with representatives from 23 other states, has urged the U.S. Senate to confirm Kash Patel as Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The call for swift confirmation follows President Trump’s nomination of Patel for the position.
“Kash Patel is the right leader at the right time for the FBI,” stated Attorney General Wilson. “His experience, integrity, and unwavering commitment to justice make him the ideal candidate to lead this critical institution and steer it back toward its foundational mission of fairness, impartiality, and protecting the American people.”
Patel’s background includes roles such as National Security Advisor to the House Intelligence Committee, where he uncovered abuses related to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. He also served as Chief of Staff to the Secretary of Defense and played a part in counter-terrorism efforts against ISIS. Former White House national security advisor Robert O’Brien praised Patel’s ability to handle complex tasks effectively.
The letter urging Patel’s confirmation was addressed to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and incoming Majority Leader John Thune. South Carolina joined Iowa in leading this initiative, with participation from Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and West Virginia.
